Doug Wilson reported that he had the emailing list and would send it to Paul DiGiacomo asap.

Doug Wilson reported that following up

Action Item CZCP-PR-9-2: Doug Wilson will send a mail to Julio Morell and ask him to prepare a report on gaps and operational issues in the coastal observing system in the Caribbean. Responsible: Doug Wilson, Deadline: 2011-01-18,

he had talked to Julio Morell, who agreed to prepare the requested report.

Hans-Peter Plag had followed up

Action Item CZCP-PR-9-3: Hans-Peter Plag will add the names of persons who asked for travel support into the master list. Responsible: Hans-Peter Plag, Deadline: 2011-01-19.

by adding the information available to him, and he requested that others would add any information not included. Roy A. Watlington emphasized the need to get more funds to support travel.

Julio Morell and Jorge Corredor will contact Ernesto Diaz. Douglas Cripe will facilitate an invitation to the minster of Tourism in St. Kitts. Hans-Peter Plag will contact Christa von Hillebrandt-Andrade. Paul DiGiacomo and Doug Wilson will send out further invitations. Responsible: Doug Wilson, Roy A. Roy A. Watlington mentioned that he had been using the wrong e-mail address, but that contact was now established.

Paul DiGiacomo repeated his invitation to Roy A. Watlington to be a co-chair of the program committee. This request was supported by other participants, and Roy A. Watlington accepted the invitation.

It was mentioned that Bill Proenza has the invitation to co-convene a session. After some discussion, it was agreed:

Douglas Cripe reported that the invitation to the Minister of Tourism of St. Kitts was with the Director of the GEO Secretariat, Jose Achache. There was discussion that all existing Ministries of Tourism in the Caribbean should get an invitation. This led to:

Douglas Cripe reported that the GEO Sec also still intends to send the invitations to CAST, CTO, and COTAL. Hans-Peter Plag pointed out that e-ma would not be sufficient and Douglas Cripe confirmed that faxes would be sent in addition. He also mentioned that the GEO Sec is sending a letter to a participant from Cuba for visa purposes.

2 Status of Local Organization.

Jorge Corredor informed that there were some questions concerning registration, and he indicated that Vanessa Gutierrez would send a mail to Hans-Peter Plag.

3 Status of Invitations and other urgent issues

Paul DiGiacomo asked about the status concerning the invitations to CTO, COTAL, and CAST. Hans-Peter Plag explained that Michael Bruno was followin the invitation to CAST, and that the GEO Sec would follow up those to CTO and COTAL.

The list of invited people was reviewed and it was agreed that:

During the discussion of the funding requests, Jorge Corredor pointed out that concerning the ten rooms paid out of the US-GEO funds, Julio Morell and himself would like to give priority to people from the region. Paul DiGiacomo expressed the wish to be more flexible since the GEO and GOOS funds can not be used for people from developed countries, while the US-GEO funds could. He volunteered to contac UNESCO-GOOS again in order to potentially get an increase of the funds for participants from developing countries, which could the used to free some of the the available rooms for participants from developed countries.

It was pointed out that an invited participant from Italy had requested funding but was not yet in the list. There was consensus t final decision should be delayed for a few more days.

Jorge Corredor pointed out that the locals need rooms out of the pool of ten rooms, and Hans-Peter Plag requested that the names of these persons be added to the xls master file.

Doug Wilson proposed to make an attempt to get funds from those EU-countries that had former strong interest in the Caribbean. Douglas Cripe agreed that the GEO Sec could send respective mails to the GEO principals in these countries, and remarked that this would be a long shot but nevertheless worth taking. It was proposed to mention in these requests the strong US-GEO support for the workshop.

Hans-Peter Plag mentioned the particular relation of the U.K. to tourism in Tobago:

Action Item CZCP-PR-10-5: Hans-Peter Plag will contact Stuart Marsh to get advice on a good avenue to contact the U.K. government for support of the workshop. Responsible: Hans-Peter Plag, Deadline: 2011-01-19.

Jorge Corredor repeated his preference for regional people getting access to the 'free rooms', but recognize that funding comes from NOAA. Therefore, he stated that he expects a list of people who should get one of these rooms from Doug Wilson.

Concerning the pending invitations, Paul DiGiacomo asked how these would be sent out. Roy A. Watlington committed to splitting up the addresses and the work of send the invitations between Paul DiGiacomo and himself.

4 Workshop Program and Session Chairs

A draft workshop program is available at http://www.czcp.org/workshops/Puerto_Rico and there the link 'Draft Program.' Program-related issues had already been discussed in the previous topics.

5 Decision on funding of participants

A list of applicants for funding had been distributed by e-mail. This list had been discussed preliminarily, and it was agreed to reach final decisions in the next telecon.

6 Any Other Business

There was no other business.
